Past 60.

I am past 60; I am 61 to be exact.the saying that woman is as old as she looks and man is as old as he thinks has some relevance to me. i forget I am a grand father of twins- boys till they call me 'thaathaa (grand father). what is grand about being a grand father? Idont know.It reminds me my agee and responsibility. I am happy to forget the many years which I crossed eventfully and wish to live like a young bachelor that i once was.
When I ride on the two wheeler I imagine it is a bicycle that I used to drive during my college days and drive it like one with speed and all the works.I come to senses when a school boy of 10 or 12 standing on the road side raises his hand to stop me and ask politely "thaathaa will you reach me to the bus stand?"
My dreams of a youth going on a horse with a chosen girl as consort-going places to conquer- are shattered .I can pardon him if he called me an uncle.I could have been happy if he addressed me as annan(elder brother). But what to do? the graying hair(whatever is left!)and a large barren area on the back of my head proves he is right. Then what I do? I preted I did not hear him ang without stopping.I proceed in anticipation of another boy or girl who would magnanimously ignore my age or appearance and call me uncle.
What a pity;most of the days none of the kids on the road are lucky enough to get a lift in my scooter!
